Do you know.... ME?

Hi there, I’m glad you are visiting my page! My name is Ana Maria Cortes, the girl behind the lens at Ana Maria Cortes Cortes Photography. I’m a photographer specialized in newborn, kids, contemporary portraits, and sports photography.

I’m not a writer, so hopefully I won’t loose you on my first sentence! Hehehe

Let me tell you a little bit about my life and how this beautiful “job” was born.

I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, and at the age of 21 moved to the USA. Little after I met my soulmate, and here we are 18 years later and counting. We built a family, an amazing family!!!! We have two kids and a dog, who is my shadow, this little furry guy won’t let me go alone anywhere!!

My world!

Professionally, I have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from NSU, and worked with kids with special needs, specifically Down Syndrome. They completely have my heart, I can say it was one of the most rewarding and amazing experiences ever. I’m still in contact with some of the “kids” I used to work with, -no little ones anymore- now they are all teenagers, with big dreams and sassy personalities. I also worked with elderly people, I called them with all my love, “mis viejitos”, some of them are as young as 95 years old. I truly believe age is just a number, the younger or older you are is in your spirit. I learned so much from them, I am forever grateful of their stories, and their way of approaching life.

Love documenting my kids life
My handsome son when he was 5

Like many newborn photographers, when I had my own kids I fell in love with details, little noses, tiny fingers, and toes, and in general these little human beings, so I started to document my kids' life.

I've always had a passion for photography; with a camera in hand taking pictures of everything, everywhere, everyone. I still have pictures when I was little and went to different field trips with my school. My friends from the university back in Colombia? Still have those print pictures and when I see them again it brings back so many beautiful memories, oh how I love photography!!

Well, life goes on and I made some changes in my professional life, always with the sense of mind that I want to be PRESENT, actually fully present in the lives of my kids. My husband and I created two different companies, it allowed me to be there for my little ones. Any field trip? I was there. Honor roll breakfast? Yep, there too. The teachers needed someone to sharpen pencils, glue papers, or just staple papers for parents? I was there all the time, and I LOVED IT! And my kids loved it too. It gave them a sense of empowerment knowing their mom was there helping. When I had to be silly I was silly, when I had to be serious I was serious, we all had a great time.

-A word of advice, If you are an elementary school parent, volunteer at your kids classroom, not only will the teachers appreciate it very much but your kids would love it.-

After we grew and sold the second company, and with the full support from my husband, and my kids (in this family, we are a team), with a leap of faith I decided to follow my passion for photography. At the end of 2016, and with a different name, Ana Maria Cortes Photography was born. From that moment, I dug into editing classes and been in different workshops and I’m still in a constant learning mode.

Thank you for taking the time and read little bit about myself. I can’t wait to meet you and capture your story!
